Bayer acquired aliphatic diisocyanate assets for coatings. Bayer announced on December 20 that they had agreed in principle to buy part of the aliphatic diisocyanate assets of Lyondell chemical company (including the remaining luxate product inventory and intellectual property rights of the company), which took effect on New Year's Day 2002. John L. Williams, President of Bayer's coatings and colorants division, said, "this agreement makes our work closely related to Lyondell and supplies their customers with the remaining luxate products during this transfer period."

Lyondell's aliphatic polyisocyanates according to the industrial standard for biodegradable plastic packaging products (hj/t209 (2) 005) issued in November 2005, which are used in the production of high-performance polyurethane, often mislead the evaluation of carton suppliers or cause losses due to carton packaging collapse. Products include hexamethylene diisocyanate, isophorone diisocyanate and aliphatic polyisocyanate
